09/ 29/ 04 Cow Auction gave BRIS 1,5 million

The 68 cows in fiberglas in Cow Parade that have brightened up our streets and business centres in Stockholm during the summer have now been sold. They were auctioned off at Stockholm Auction centre last night where 75 percent off the proceeds went to BRIS who plan to use the proceeds to build up their base of child help telephones. More and more children call the BRIS help lines and BRIS is not able to answer all calls and emails today.
The cows were auctioned off at various amounts. The "record breaking cow" was the butterfly covered Gullan created by artist Emma Knowles and host Farsta Centrum that went for 150 000 sek. The cow-napped Modern Cow, that was taken from its foundation outside of the Modern Museum and cut in bits brought in 14 000 sek for its head.
"This is one of the largest collection opportunities ever for us. It would not have been possible without the commitment and efforts of the artists, sponsors and organizers. The auction also shows that this type of arrangement is here to stay and is a fantastic way to support non-profit organizations", says BRIS secretary general, Göran Harnesk.
Cow Parade has international traditions and has previously been carried out in many cities of the world such as London, New York, Sidney, London, Dublin and Chicago. The Stockholm version was given praise from the Cow Parade management for its local originality of the artistic cows. The main cow host is one of BRIS largest sponsors, AMF Pension, who in many ways supports the work to help children in need. At the same time tourists and city people have been able to enjoy an artistic event during the three summer months. The auction house and communications agency Ogilvy's work have made all the difference to the successful result.
"The amount of support shows us that there is a great will to work for the children. The artists have put a great amount of effort into their creations. All involved can take credit for the creative solutions and the fine financial result,” says Paula Alderin, head of sponsorship for BRIS.
